In January, we launched Word of the Week, #InsureUwotw, a social media effort to educate consumers about useful insurance-related terminology. Every Wednesday, @NAIC releases a short video that explains the meaning of a common insurance term and offers an insight on how that word relates to their insurance coverage.
The NAIC communications team continues to work on monthly campaigns highlighting insurance topics through social media, consumer insights and press releases. In March, we focused on disaster preparedness. In April, we're promoting the importance of paying attention while driving. Our distracted driving program reminds drivers to Keep the Road Code. We will join the industry in promoting Disability Insurance Month in May.
Focus on Flood
The frequency and severity of natural disasters is a driving force behind the NAIC’s multi-year campaign to educate consumers about the important role flood insurance plays in recovering from natural disasters. The #RiskIsReal phase of the campaign began in March and will focus on reminding consumers that flood impacts people in every state and that insurance is an important part of any preparation and resiliency plan. The communications team continues to work closely with state insurance departments on a variety of ways to encourage people to understand their risks and insure what matters.
