Dear Colleagues,
Welcome – Happy New Year! A new year often means new beginnings and new goals for the coming year. For the NAIC Communications team that sentiment rings true as we start 2020 with a new campaign.
Building on the success of last year’s #YourRiskisReal campaign, the NAIC is partnering with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration (FIMA) and the Insurance Institute of Business & Home Safety (IHBS) on a campaign that educates the public about the critical role preparation plays in disaster recovery. This campaign will include social media posts, a twitter chat, videos, consumer insights and a satellite media tour.
The #ReduceYourRisk campaign toolkit is currently in development. We will share it in next month's newsletter.
Key messages of the campaign include:
- Protect the life you built by taking steps to prepare for natural disasters. #ReduceYourRisk with flood insurance.
- #ReduceYourRisk by using fortified building materials and processes to protect against natural disasters.
- Insured survivors recover faster than their uninsured neighbors. #ReduceYourRisk by protecting your family with flood insurance.
- A flood insurance policy can help you rebuild if a flood disaster damages your home. Many policies have a 30-day waiting period.
PIO State Net
The NAIC has a section on naic.org called State net that is dedicated to state regulators and staff.
The Communications department is creating a PIO resources section on State net that will provide marketing tools, consumer insights and alerts, communications information along with an archives section of previous newsletters and monthly call briefings for PIOs to access.
On next month's call, we will discuss the logistics for accessing the site.
PIO Monthly Call Agenda
For those of you who are new to your communications job, the NAIC holds a PIO conference call the 3rd Thursday of the month. It's an opportunity for state PIOs to talk about what's going on in their departments and share consumer educational resources. Often, we'll have a special guest who discusses any federal, state or consumer issues relevant to the industry.
If you have any state news and/or announcements you'd like to discuss, please email srbryant@naic.org.
Please see the tentative agenda for the call on Thursday, Jan. 16. Times and participation information are listed below.
