Regulators
The NAIC can provide help to state and territory insurance regulators following natural disasters. The Disaster Assistance Program offers services such as coordinated data calls, consumer call assistance, support from volunteer regulators, and more. Contact memberservices@naic.org to learn more.
State insurance regulators can use this template in advance of a disaster to help aid consumers and work alongside other agencies. The document also includes guidance for insurers and other licensees.
Consumers
Understand what to do after a natural disaster damages your home and learn the tools and tips that can help you to navigate the insurance claims process. For floods and earthquakes, most homeowners policies won’t cover the damage unless you bought coverage separately. Your state insurance department will help you and answer any questions—free of charge.
