Suzette M. Del Valle Lecároz was appointed by Governor Jenniffer González Colón as Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico in August 2025 and has served in that capacity since her appointment. She was subsequently confirmed by the Puerto Rico Senate in November 2025. She leads the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance in regulating and overseeing Puerto Rico’s insurance market. 

Commissioner Del Valle is a licensed attorney admitted to practice in Puerto Rico, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Prior to her appointment as Insurance Commissioner, she served as legal counsel, risk management, and regulatory compliance, handling civil, contractual, and insurance-related matters in addition to litigation. Her career spans nearly three decades of experience across the legal, financial, and insurance sectors, combining innovation with regulatory responsibility and public service. 

Commissioner Del Valle’s 2025–2028 Strategic Plan highlights seven priority areas to strengthen the Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OCS): policyholder protection, effective insurer supervision, human talent development, technological modernization, regulatory resilience, institutional ethics, and operational continuity. Her management vision focuses on strengthening the OCS as a modern, efficient, and transparent institution guided by the principles of excellence, integrity, and public service. Under her leadership, the OCS drives initiatives to enhance public trust, promote fair competition, protect policyholder rights, and solidify the insurance sector as a key pillar of Puerto Rico’s economic development.

Commissioner Del Valle earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bentley University. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she is married and a proud mother of two children.
