Commissioner Kathleen Birrane Delivers Keynote Address at TII East Asia Pacific Insurance Forum
On May 12, 2022, NAIC Innovation Cybersecurity and Technology Committee and Commissioner of the Maryland Insurance Administration Kathleen A. Birrane participated virtually in Taiwanese Insurance Institute’s (TII) “East Asia Pacific Insurance Forum 2022” delivering a keynote speech on “Regulations and Practices of Insurtech and Consumer Protection in the U.S.A.” Commissioner Birrane spoke to the importance of technology and innovation, highlighted the NAIC’s efforts in developing a new committee to focus on its technological advancements in the industry, and, outlined the committee’s key priorities for 2022 and beyond.

As part of our state-based system of insurance regulation in the United States, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) provides expertise, data, and analysis for insurance commissioners to effectively regulate the industry and protect consumers.
