NAIC Offers Condolences on Passing of Karrol Kitt, Longtime Consumer Representative
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) offers its condolences to family and friends of Karrol Ann Kitt, who passed away in Austin, Texas, on June 27. Karrol had served as an NAIC Consumer Representative since 1999.
Karrol was born December 4, 1946, in McCook, Nebraska. She was the older of identical twins and grew up on a farm/ranch in Dundy County, Nebraska.
Karrol received a Bachelor of Science degree and a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska, then a Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1978, and joined the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin after teaching at both Oregon State University and San Diego State University.
Karrol influenced the lives of many students in the 38 years she taught personal finance and home management at the University of Texas, including to a second generation of students whose parents had taken her class. Before her retirement, Karrol served in a variety of roles at the University of Texas, including on the University of Texas Union Board. After her retirement from the faculty, Karrol remained active in the Retired Faculty-Staff Association (RFSA) at the University, including serving on that organization’s Board of Directors.
Karrol was an effective consumer advocate and was respected by her academic colleagues, as evidenced by her election as President of the Association of Financial Counseling and Planning Education in 2004. Karrol maintained her status as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) for many years.
