NAIC Urges Prompt Action on NFIP Reauthorization

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) urges prompt Congressional action to finalize a long-term reauthorization and reform of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) before the latest extension expires on July 31, 2018. A long-term reauthorization is critical for a stable program and to provide certainty for policyholders. Reauthorization legislation should also ensure consumers have access to multiple options for flood insurance products and help facilitate greater growth in the private flood insurance market. State insurance regulators urge the inclusion of the Flood Insurance Market Parity and Modernization Act (H.R. 1422/S. 563) in any final reauthorization legislation. It is also important that reauthorization encourage investment in flood mitigation efforts to help reduce future flood risks.
