Peter M. Fuimaono was appointed as American Samoa’s Insurance Commissioner by Gov. Pulaalii Tuiteleapaga Iuli Nikolao Pula on Jan. 9, 2025.

In this role, Commissioner Fuimaono is responsible for protecting consumer rights and the public’s interest in dealing with the insurance industry.

Commissioner Fuimaono previously served in the same position, having been appointed by Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga on Jan. 3, 2017. He has served as the eighth and 10th Insurance Commissioner for American Samoa since the position was established in 1974.

With more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, Commissioner Fuimaono has an extensive background in bank and financial, property ownership, community association, and real estate management. 

In addition to his professional achievements, Commissioner Fuimaono currently serves as Paramount High Chief Fuimaono and has served as chairman of the American Samoa Cultural and Art Federation in Hawaii.
 
Commissioner Fuimaono furthered his education at Brigham Young University (Provo, UT) and Hawaii Business University.
