Timothy N. Schott

Timothy N. Schott began serving as Maine’s Acting Superintendent on June 8, 2026. He has served as the Deputy Superintendent of the Maine Bureau of Insurance since 2009, and he served as Acting Superintendent from April 1, 2022, to Feb. 27, 2024.
Acting Superintendent Schott’s responsibilities within the bureau include supervising its Consumer Health Care Division, Licensing Division, Market Conduct Work Unit, Property/Casualty (P/C) Work Division, and Research and Statistics Work Unit.
Prior to joining the bureau, Acting Superintendent Schott served as a criminal prosecutor in Fort Dodge, IA, for more than 13 years. He prosecuted all levels of crime, including felony drug cases, felony assaults, murder, kidnapping, and sexual abuse cases.
Acting Superintendent Schott has taught college courses at Iowa Central Community College and at Buena Vista University’s Fort Dodge Center (Fort Dodge, IA), including criminal law, mass communication law, business law, and police administration and procedure. He is a licensed attorney in Maine and Iowa.
Acting Superintendent Schott graduated with honors from Drake University Law School (Des Moines, IA). He also earned a master’s degree in mass communication from Drake University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern Maine, where he graduated cum laude.
