NAIC Presents on Priorities and Goals at Latin American Think Tank

Insurance think tank Centro de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo del Segur (CIDeS) held its Insurance Week conference on May 26–27 in Mendoza, Argentina. At the conference, California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara participated in a panel discussion regarding the future of insurance supervision and regulatory challenges for the region.

Commissioner Lara and NAIC staff also presented on “Another Perspective on Insurance Supervision,” which explained the role of state insurance regulators and the NAIC, the NAIC’s approach to international engagement, and NAIC strategic priorities for 2026, with additional details on the work of the Climate and Resiliency (EX) Task Force.

While in Mendoza, board members of the Association of Insurance Supervisors of Latin America (ASSAL) held a strategic retreat, which included discussions with the NAIC about how the two organizations could further enhance their relationship following the board’s approval for the NAIC to join ASSAL as an Associate Member. This included ways to leverage educational and training opportunities on topics of mutual interest.

About the National Association of Insurance Commissioners

As part of our state-based system of insurance regulation in the United States, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) provides expertise, data, and analysis for insurance commissioners to effectively regulate the industry and protect consumers. The U.S. standard-setting organization is governed by the chief insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories. Through the NAIC, state insurance regulators establish standards and best practices, conduct peer reviews, and coordinate regulatory oversight. NAIC staff supports these efforts and represents the collective views of state regulators domestically and internationally.
