Jerry Bump

Jerry Bump was appointed as Hawaii’s Acting Insurance Commissioner on Feb. 1, 2025.

As the Acting Insurance Commissioner of Hawaii, Bump oversees the regulation of the state’s insurance industry, ensuring compliance with state laws and protecting policyholders’ interests. His responsibilities include licensing insurers and producers, reviewing rates, investigating complaints, and promoting a fair, competitive, and financially stable insurance market.

Acting Insurance Commissioner Bump most recently served as the Chief Deputy Insurance Commissioner for the Hawaii Insurance Division, where he has worked for the last 16 years managing various programs and projects. A licensed Hawaii-certified public accountant, he also held executive positions at Pacific Guardian Life.

Acting Insurance Commissioner Bump, who organized the Hawaii Insurance Division’s response to the 2023 Maui wildfire disaster, was recognized as the department’s team of the year nominee at the 2024 Hawaii Governor employee awards ceremony. In the community, Acting Insurance Commissioner Bump co-led a support group for parents raising children with autism and navigating the public education system.

Acting Insurance Commissioner Bump earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii at Manoa (Honolulu, HI).

The Hawaii Insurance Division ensures that consumers are provided with insurance services that meet acceptable standards of quality, equity, and dependability at fair rates by establishing and enforcing appropriate service standards.
