Sandra Darby was appointed Acting Superintendent of Insurance of the Maine Bureau of Insurance by Gov. Janet Mills, effective Aug. 18, 2026.
Acting Superintendent Darby brings more than 11 years of Bureau experience in property/casualty and life/health insurance regulation, and she also serves as the Property and Casualty Division actuary for the Bureau. She previously held positions in Anthem’s Actuarial Pricing Unit and as the Consumer Health Care Division assistant actuary at the Bureau.
Acting Superintendent Darby is an active member of numerous NAIC committees and working groups and has served in several leadership roles over the years. She currently serves as chair of the Statistical Data (C) Working Group and vice chair of the Casualty Actuarial and Statistical (C) Task Force.
Darby earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Maine (Farmington, ME) and a master’s degree in actuarial science from Boston University.
In her free time, she loves spending time at the lake with her family in beautiful Maine.
